Visiting Clerkship Application Form

Non-LCME Visiting Student Applications

This is application for a visiting elective rotation at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.   You may apply here for courses at The George Washington University and for pediatric courses at the Children's National Medical Center if you attend an osteopathic school.   If you are a medical student at a U.S. LCME accredited medical school, apply through VSAS.

In order to complete the application you will need the following information:

  • Grades for Year 1 and 2 and for third-year clerkships
  • Your health insurance company name and policy number
  • Your student registrar/affairs dean's name, title, phone number, fax number, email address, and the address of your school's dean's or registrar's office.
  • A list of your selected courses from the Senior Course Catalog and the dates in weeks based on the GW academic calendar.   Indicate preferences by department and course number (i.e., med352; pchi382).   The dates of the rotation are fixed and your dates must correspond to the week blocks.   A limited number of courses are offered for two weeks.   Those courses start on even numbered weeks only.

Applications will be processed on a first come-first serve basis.   A space cannot be secured by telephone.   Visiting students are not able to reserve or hold spaces prior to submission of an application.   Coordinators are not able to 'pencil you in' if another application is pending.

Please do not send additional paperwork.   We do not wish to receive transcripts, immunization records, letters of good standing, etc. by mail.   The application once submitted, goes directly to the applicant's Dean or Registrar for confirmation and approval.   If the school does not track the student records we require, we will contact you.   Most schools are able to provide us with the documentation that we need by completing the medical school portion of the application.

Checks for the $75.00 application fee should not be submitted until you have been approved and confirmed for the course.

We will not approve or confirm any courses until after the GW seniors have completed their schedules.   This will be completed at the end of May. We will begin to send confirmations during the first week of June.   We will notify all students about the status of their application.   After that, we expect to respond to all requests for electives within 3 weeks.

We do not accept third-year students for any core rotations.   Students must have completed the third year core rotations before their visiting rotation begins.   We have a limited number of affiliation agreements/ contracts with schools outside of the United States.   Interested applicants may inquire with the Office of International Medicine at imprxj@gwumc.edu.

Please check and verify all information before submitting your application.   If your application is not approved by your dean's office for any reason, your application will be canceled.
