Thank you for your interest in the visiting student program at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
This year we will be accepting applications for visiting electives through the VSAS (Visiting Student Application Service) system. Students who take electives must be enrolled in their senior year of medical school at a U. S. LCME medical school or COCA accredited AACOM member colleges. They must be in good academic standing after completing their core rotations.

Our requirements include:
Verification of HIPAA and OSHA training, BLS certification, and malpractice coverage at $1 million per occurrence and $3 million aggregate should be provided by your medical school.
As of February 2012, all COCA accredited AACOM member colleges with rising fourth year classes have joined VSAS as home schools. Students enrolled at the schools below may use VSAS to submit applications and meet the above requirements.
International students may inquire about electives through our Office of International Medicine Programs. We have exchange contracts and/or affiliation agreements with a limited number of international Medical Schools. We are able to accept students from those schools only. You may review requirements and availability at http://www.gwumc.edu/imp/education/intlclinic.cfm. Inquiries for additional information regarding international clinical electives may be sent to Amanda Tuffli at impawt@gwumc.edu.
We will begin accepting applications for electives on April 1, 2012. Confirmation of acceptance for an elective rotation will be sent after the first week of June when the GW School of Medicine senior students have completed their schedules for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Students accepted for electives are allowed a maximum of 2 four week rotations. The required application fee is $75.00 (due upon acceptance). We do not provide housing. Please bring your white coat with you as well as your school ID; we will provide ID access for the Medical Center, GW Hospital and the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library. Parking is provided on campus at a discounted rate. The metro (subway) system has a stop on the GW campus at Foggy Bottom. Access to the Health and Wellness Center is available for a monthly fee.
We look forward to hosting you for an elective rotation.
GW's Washington, D.C. location puts our students, faculty, and researchers in the heart of health care policy. The Medical Center's campus in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood is just steps away from the World Health Organization, blocks from the White House, and a short Metro ride from the National Institutes of Health.
