Fourth Year International Electives

The Office of International Medicine Programs (IMP) offers fourth-year students the opportunity to travel abroad for clinical electives.  The program allows students to gain knowledge of and experience dealing with diseases that are uncommon in the U.S., as well as to broaden understanding of public and global health.  Based on availability, electives may be available in:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Clinical Neuroscience
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Medicine and Subspecialties
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatrics and Subspecialties
  • Psychiatry

Travel with a Purpose

Each year, GW medical students travel abroad to care for underserved communities around the globe.  Students see approximately 1,000 Haitian patients annually in schools, churches, or simple wooden shacks, supplementing the work of a Haitian health care NGO.
