Entrance Requirements

Academic excellence indicated through coursework and MCAT scores is very important for the study of medicine. However, evidence of compassion, service, integrity, cooperation, motivation, and strength of character are equally important. The Committee on Admissions looks for these qualities in deeds as well as words. Experience in leadership, health care, research, community service, and other enriching activities are scrutinized, as are letters of recommendation and personal comments.

Last year's entering class represented over 90 undergraduate institutions and hailed from 29 states as well as from the District of Columbia and Canada.  The class averaged a 3.6 science GPA and a 3.7 overall GPA. In terms of MCAT scores, the averages were a 10.2  in Physical Sciences, a 10.8 in Biological Sciences, a 9.6 in Verbal Reasoning, and a P on the written essay.
